The Health & Social Care Forum was established in 1998 to bring together voluntary and community sector organisations with an interest in these fields. The initial intention was to provide an arena in which to raise issues and to help to establish mechanisms to enable members to engage in the planning, development and delivery of health and social care in Sefton. Our aim1. To develop a strategic response to health & social care issues. 2. To establish meaningful partnerships within the voluntary and community sector. 3. To seek to inform and influence the local authority, Sefton Primary Care Trust and other agencies, in areas relating to health and social care. Having established its aims, objectives and principles the Forum has been working to improve access to information and increase the influence of the voluntary sector in the process of decision-making. Through supporting its members the forum seeks ultimately to improve the situation for individual service users. The Health & Social Care Forum meets on a bi-monthly basis, at a central location in the borough. The Forum currently has working groups meeting bimonthly, in different venues in Sefton. These are around four particular themes: learning disabilities, mental health, working with older people and the Sefton advocacy forum. It has established links with a number of relevant local health and social care partnerships as a representative network of voluntary and community sector organisations. Through these mechanisms, the Forum is represented on the Sefton Borough Partnership, Healthier Communities & Older People Group, Sefton Public Health Partnership, Learning Disabilities Partnership Board, Physical Disabilities Partnership Board, Mental Health Local Implementation Team, Older People’s Local Implementation Team. Membership
Membership of the Forum is open to members of voluntary and community sector organisations across Sefton with an interest in the fields of health and social care.
